You Can Conte on LFTI

As you can tell by the title of this post, I’ve either had a stroke or I’m referring to Paolo Conte, incomparable Italian composer, singer and pianist.

The fact that I’ve just made myself giggle as I typed the word “pianist” coupled with the fact that I’m not sure which of those two things is true leads me to favor “stroke.”

Okay. Sorry about that. I just got back from having an MRI. Turns out that I’m fine. No visible signs of stroke. So that’s good. Though I’m uninsured, so once the bill gets here for the MRI, I expect an actual stroke to follow shortly thereafter.

I remain confused about the reasons that I typed “bunny banana hammock bi-quarterly” however. Since it wasn’t stroke-related, it’s possibly a magazine I subscribed to at one time or another.

Probably in college.

All right, having ruled out a stroke, it follows that this post will have something to do with Paolo Conte.

And it does.

When I was writing the music for our first “Lou Short” (more to come!) I decided that what it needed was the exuberant feel, flow and pathos of a Paolo Conte tune. Since I was unable to secure the rights to an actual Paolo Conte tune, I decided that what the short really needed was a cheep knockoff of a Paolo Conte tune. Something that had has the essence of Paolo Conte, without the cost or competence of Paolo Conte.

And here is the end result. Tune that can be heard partially at the end of *subject to change. You can hear it here in its entirety.

The embedded played above (the one that you just listened to the “Paolo Conte” tune with…you did listen to it right?) is courtesy of a site called ourstage.com. It’s a site where independent artists, unknowns and amateurs (me!) can upload and distribute our music on the internet.

Well, a couple months ago I posted the LFTI theme song; Fine Print. Ourstage has contests that you can participate in and it’s free to enter (and really easy), so I went ahead and submitted the song. Well, it finished in the middle of the pack during the month I submitted it (no surprise since I didn’t promote it…much like this show!). But, for some strange reason, this month it’s reached #8 in the rock competition.

Maybe we can take it to #5 (I’m a realist)!

Music From the Inside

If you follow us on Twitter, you know that earlier in the week I promised to post a little music from the show. If you follow us on Twitter you would know that. If you don’t follow us on Twitter you’re just now receiving old news. Now, I don’t want to say that you’re out of the loop or anything, I’m just saying…well…maybe you should follow us on Twitter? It’s easy.

But that’s not the point of this post. I just wanted to share a couple tunes from the show with you. Share some tunes and shame you into joining Twitter.

I’m sorry, I’m in the midst of a minor mental civil war here.


Let’s get to the music.

This is the “Theme Song” for the show. It’s a song I wrote called “Fine Print.” I think that it pretty much sums up Mason’s worldview. In fact, it sums it up so well, that we’ve only ever used it in the trailer! (and as some background music in Episode 1) It’s been written and recorded since forever. We always hoped to make a proper credit sequence and use it for that, but our show is always so long that we’ve never been able to.

(A little inside scoop: I’ve got a little “intro graphic” in the works for the next episode. It’s not a credit sequence, but it’s fancier than the title we use now. And what song accompanies it? ….Not “Fine Print.” Hmmm.)

I know this song has been up for a while on MySpace, but now you can enjoy it here without the threat of sexual predators.

This next tune is one of my all-time favorites. Seriously, I love this tune. I know it’s poor taste to say that about something that I created. But I don’t care. I like it. Plus, I keep forgetting that I made it. Probably because I’m not critical of it at all. I enjoy it independently of myself. If you’ve ever made anything you’re proud of, you can probably understand what I mean. It’s almost like the song wrote itself.

Well, now I’ve got it all built up. You’ll be expecting a lot. Well don’t. It’s just a good little tune. Maybe you shouldn’t even listen to it now. In fact, you know what?! I think the song is crap! It really sucks! It’s terrible!

Okay, I believe that I’ve successfully cancelled out those two paragraphs. I’ve cleansed the palette. Now you can enjoy the tune.

This is called “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Mason.” Yes! Like the short! It’s the theme from our Halloween Special. I was going for a “Peanutsy” Vince Guaraldi-type thing. I think it worked. It incorporates some melodic ideas from “Fine Print.” Though no one thus far has noticed. Even after I’ve pointed it out.

Now you can compare and see for yourself! The “A” section of “ITGP,M” borrows the chorus melody from “Fine Print.” Listen for it! Let me know if you can hear it.

As an added bonus, the tune has a sort of “Autumny” quality to it, which is a nice respite if, like us here in LA, you just went through a horrible heat wave.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little musical side journey through LFTI. I’m off to keep working on the music for Episode 7! There’s some fun music coming! Really. I’m quite happy with it.

Episode 7 Sneak Peek!

Hey! Robb here, with a sneak peek of LFTI Episode 7!

Now, I haven’t gotten Tanya and Steve’s permission to do this, so I’m going to have to type fast (though I don’t really know why). And you’re going to have to read it twice as fast (though that shouldn’t be a problem considering that I type incredibly slow)!

Below, I have posted EXCLUSIVE screen shots from the next episode of Life From The Inside! “But, Robb!” you ask “how did you gain access to such guarded treasures?! Did you have to break into LFTI headquarters?! Or, do you have a secret informant working ‘on the inside’?”

Well, that is an incredibly stupid question. It’s a good thing that I invented that entire exchange and you didn’t actually ask it.

But I have been staring at the episode for a few weeks now as I’ve been editing it and I’ve been dying to show somebody! That’s when the idea hit me… you’re “somebody.” Why not show it to you?

Why not indeed.

Here it is. The world EXCLUSIVE peek at LFTI Episode 7 (I’d spill the title here, but I honestly can’t remember what we decided to call it… needless to say, whichever title we settled on will have an asterisk before it. It will also be some kind of disclaimer and deliciously apropos)!

Now there may be some of you out there who think that I’m being deliberately and annoyingly coy about all this. To you I say, maybe I’m not? Perhaps I’ve represented the episode to its fullest? Maybe we shot it this way? How do you know? And frankly, I don’t like your hypothetical tone! Episode 7 could be the trippiest sitcom you’ve ever seen!

Then again, I could just be being deliberately and annoyingly coy.

Episode 6 is (Finally) Here!

Episode 6 is (Finally) Here!

Sorry for the delay. It won’t happen again.



Episode 6 has gone through a unique (unique for us anyway) post-production process, so it took a little longer than usual.

But it’s here now! So why not just kick back and enjoy it?

In fact, why not just kick back and enjoy it at various locations on the web. Sure, you can always enjoy it here, but you can also see it on YouTube, Revver, Blip, or any number of fantastic websites! And while you’re there, why not rate and comment? We would seriously love you for it.

Anyway, as you may have noticed, this episode if a bit different from the others. We shot it in HD. But the differences don’t stop there! Oh no! We’re also releasing each part one week apart! And Episode 6 has been split into 4 parts instead of just three. That’s like a whole part better! Plus, as you’ll see next week, each subsequent part of Episode 6 will include a little “previously on…” intro.

Fancy.

We begin shooting on Episode 7 this coming Sunday. So watch for that soon too! We promise, it won’t take us a small forever to get that episode up. And it’s a good one.

We’re Featured

On indieTV.tv that is.

I urge you to go to indietv.tv and give them some love. You’ll probably recognize some familiar faces on the front page. Our viewership on indieTV has been a nice little boon, so, again, go to indieTV and watch, or at least vote or comment or something (as long as you’re in the commenting mood, why not visit our iTunes page and write a review? Or, go to YouTube and leave us a nice note. You could also subscribe to us now on Miro – if you haven’t checked out Miro, I highly recommend it, it’s great. BTW, people who liked us on Miro also liked Katie Couric’s podcast. Really? That’s cool with me. But weird, no?).

Anyway, Kaywood Hopkins is the man behind indietv.tv. I’ve actually been a member of the site for quite a while. I joined up right after we decided to make an online sitcom. Kaywood used to produce an indie sitcom called 35th Street Mission and I liked it. Plus he was a fellow Washingtonian so his show had even more interest to me.

Also, Kaywood built an entire coffee house set in his basement! And I’m not talking about some crappy cardboard boxes painted and taped together either. It was a good looking set (Hey Kaywood, do you still have that, I’m just curious?). Now that’s dedication.

So, go to indietv.tv and check it out. You’ll be glad you did.

We Were Mentioned (By Proxy) in the Huffington Post!

Okay, here’s the deal; Ryan Davis of the Huffington Post blogged about independent “TV” shows on the web yesterday.

Two shows in particular were on Ryan’s radar, “The Burg” and “Break a Leg.” They are both very good shows. Both of them produced by good people. Kathy, Tanya and I actually bought “dinner” and drinks for Kathleen Grace and Thom Woodley, the producers of The Burg (they were in LA from Williamsburg, very nice, but where are the new episodes?!). We haven’t had a chance to buy Yuri and Vlad Baranovsky of BaL a meal yet, but if they’re ever hungry we will be more than happy to.

So, how did we get mentioned, and why am I so eager to buy food for a couple of expat Ukrainians? Well, the only reason we’re on the Huffington Post is because Yuri and Vlad mentioned LFTI as one of the shows that they are watching.

Wasn’t that cool of them?

I’m not sure of the number of hits that have been generated for our site due to the Huffington Post’s…uh…post because they didn’t hyperlink to us. But we had a good day yesterday. Our second biggest ever. Yeah us!

[Okay, I just checked back in with the article. It seems that we are now hyperlinked! So now I’ll be able to track just how many chocolate martinis we owe the Baranovskys.]

You Say You Want a Resolution

Well, you know…we all want to change the world.

Or your online sitcom-watching experience anyway. It turns out that resolution(s) are not just for the New Year, because last time I checked, it was still October (although, as old as I am now, I’ll blink and it’ll be August again).

I suppose my point here is that…we have added “Hi-Resolution” versions of every episode! Yeah! Now, when you subscribe to iTunes, you won’t have to sit and watch crappy recompressed files!

(Okay, I just want to take a second here to let you know that we do indeed have a proper iTunes page now! I was afraid that they’d let us twist in the wind, but they didn’t. Good ‘ol Apple. Maybe they’d feature us if they knew that we do the entire show on a Mac? I dunno. But I wanted to say that you can subscribe to us through the iTunes store now. We’re under Podcasts/Comedy. Just search for “Life From The Inside.” You may have to look closely, but we’re there! Although Episode 4 seems to be missing at the moment...)(Right, back to the post)

Yes, thanks to blip.tv (seriously, one of the best sites on the Internet. Go there and give them some love – and tell them to feature us!) we now have super-high quality versions of each and every episode.

I can’t stress enough how different your viewing experience will be when you watch the hi-resolution files. You’ll notice stuff like subtle facial expressions, set decorations…actors.

Gone are the days of feeling like you’re watching our show in a Saharan sand storm. Say “goodbye” to tinny, indiscernible musical cues and lines. Say “hello” to the era of noticing audio edits, boom shadows and crap that we accidentally forget to remove from the kitchen.

Yes, the videos are that high quality. But don’t let the boom shadows frighten you, the show is – dare I say – 200 times more enjoyable when you can see stuff (that’s a scientifically proven fact…trust me…don’t research it).

The files have not been changed for episode 5, but episodes 1-4 are new and looking great. They’re also looking huge. So when you click on the “watch in hi-resolution” button on the respective episode’s page, give it a moment to load before you watch. I case you forget we’ve included a gentle reminder on each page.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that there is a new feature on lifefromtheinside.com.

My computer wants me to capitalize the word “Internet.” I’m sure it’s proper. Why would my computer lie? But I’m not very comfortable with the idea. At best, it makes me feel like the Internet is a person or a proper place (Like “The Louvre” not like “the bathroom”), at worst, it makes me feel like I should worship it.

Maybe I’d feel better if we stopped capitalizing “God?” Maybe we should stop capitalizing the Louvre while we’re at it…or people’s names. Don’t people have big enough egos already?

I'd like to thank Break a Leg for illuminating me about the fact that TV Guide is even having such awards.

I figured that I'd nominate Episode 5 since it's our newest episode. But it doesn't have to be the only one! If you get the inclination, go ahead and nominate your favorite episode. There are 4 more to choose from (plus you could also nominate episode 5 again, it might help our chances). It's easy. Just pick a category and fill out the form. A process made even easier since our fantastic new website contains all the info for each episode right on the page with the video!

Copy, paste, nominate. Then watch the acclaim start to roll in (possibly).
